100° Below Zero

100 Degrees Below Zero opens with a series of volcanic eruptions in Europe which leads to the grounding of planes. Steve Foster (Fahey) had to fly his new wife Lacey (Fekete) to meet his children Taryn (Lane) and Ryan (Ewins) who are studying abroad in Paris and so they had to make a stop in London. Therefore, Steve had to find a way to get to Paris. It is also important to note that Dr. Goldschein (Kamaras) and Colonel Ralph Dillard (Rhys-Davies) are expected to brace for the series of events which would leave Europe with a blanket of snow for possibly two years.

Being a soldier in the past, Steve seeks out Colonel Dillard who is willing to render assistance as long as a particular location is reached within the stipulated time(deadline before the upcoming ice age).

An ex-military pilot known as Steve foster happened to take a flight from London to Paris, and his final destination to his kids whom he is trying to bring to his new wife who lives in London as they crossed over the ocean. Nevertheless, the lines will be drawn with Steve’s resources. As per children of Steve’s, Taryn and Ryan are his kids they have just one mission today and that is to stay as a family as their step-mother meets them for the first time, and after the disaster over Paris begins, they have to find a way to make things work with Ryan being the one apparently tripping over more than he needs to. While Colonel Ralph Dillard seems to take care of the events from military perspective and to prepare for the worst while also supporting his close friend.

Performances – Jeff Fahey is good, through with his character essentially just driving and talking a lot. Sara Malakul and Marc Ewins’s characters gives us a good laugh when they get such strong contractions to the events and sometimes the bomb tremors in Paris. John Rhys-Davies gets to do talking alone, and never does he seem to be stretched in such capacity while being an actor.

The movie follows it’s protagonist in various parts of the world after a apocalypse strikes the European continent, so this is a disaster movie with a plot that can be perceived as ludicrous, but for the most part it appeals to people who are looking for a decent cliché disaster flick, the plot is basic enough to stroll through and though there will be times when you would want to chuckle, we do get to appreciate the beautiful scenery.

Adjust your expectations for this one and keep them realistic, for this is not the one that portrays things as serious as they need to be and even One never gets the feeling of the magnitude of the event that is taking place, we also are in a state of shock and awe to what is being presented on screen, with one character missing the point and completely forgetting the chain for which the movie was long.
