5D
S Narayan’s 50th Kannada film as a director, 5D is a departure from the norm for the filmmaker. It is more dark-themed but still retains his signature family sentiment and humour in storytelling.
Set in Bevinakolla village, the movie begins with a series of murders over 1,300 people are killed including the powerful local headman that are solved by a tenacious cop named Abhinandan played by S Narayan himself and Aditya as the protagonist.
What follows is an engrossing whodunit that spans almost 25 years with Abhinandan relentlessly pursuing justice for those killings while the blood-thirsty relatives plot revenge elsewhere.
The film also does well to dig into blood mafia territory; Narayan takes risks here too and wraps it all up in anticipation-filled packages. But some parts fall flat even if they were ambitious; while donating blood stands for saving lives, 5D goes against this belief by dwelling on underhand dealings within such a noble course. The setting unearths wicked truths behind seemingly good hearted deeds through its thrilling storyline telling. However much it may appear underdeveloped around blood mafia activities, one can never forget about giving or receiving blood transfusions after watching this movie.
Adithya brings his character alive being his twenty-fifth outing as an actor in films with this industry while acting as a backbone role model throughout five Ds but Aditi Prabhudeva fails to deliver impact required from her acting skills hence making viewers not connect fully with what she portrays on screen. On another hand Jyothi Rai playing mother-son roles alongside aditi add layers into plot yet they have been treated predictably so far
In conclusion though not completely successful experimentally done piece by s narayan who tries something different outside usual light hearted comedies we used to see him direct especially since there’s more intensity involved here compared to any other film he has made before but still manages not lose touch with core fans who love watching his movies because it signifies an interesting change in approach by this experienced director.
