A six-member group planning a heist in a bungalow faces a major obstacle in the form of a lonely blind man residing there.
Last 6 hours Movie Review: When it came out, the Don’t Breathe franchise served as something of a game changer in Hollywood, and many filmmakers down South were vying for the remake rights of the film. A few minutes into Bharath’s latest flick, Last 6 hours, one might wonder if this is the official remake of Don’t Breathe and even cross check the same on the internet. But then, we realise that most part of the story is heavily ‘inspired’ by Don’t Breathe with some changes here and there.
In the opening scene itself, we are introduced to six people who perform a heist in an independent villa, where they eventually end up killing a young girl who tries to thwart their burglary act. After a few months, they plan another bigger heist to settle for life. While entering a bungalow near Kerala border believing that an old locker inside would solve all their financial issues which they know is impossible but have heard rumours about it from someone they come across a lonely blind man (Bharath) who has been living there for sometime now.
Who is this blind man named John and why he is angry with these thieves forms rest of the film’s crux. The second half also reveals connection between John and first robbery that team committed few months ago.
If you haven’t watched Don’t Breathe then you may find Last 6 hours interesting however for others it’s just another passable thriller that tries too hard to keep its viewers at edge. It’s okay if writer wants to get inspired from hollywood movie but even setup and plot structure turned out similar. Even though makers were able inject revenge drama track into screenplay itself which worked well during later part when things started moving fast.
Bharath has done justice to his role as a blind man who is good at martial arts. The stunt sequences were realistic and doesn’t disturb the flow of film. The twist and flashback sequences which comes during second half was decent enough to hold our attention throughout. Actress Viviya Santh, who has been part of films like Pickles (Malayalam) and Angulika (Telugu), did a great job. Her performance as one among the robbers was quite impressive especially the scene where she reveals her true identity is something to watch out for.
Other actors including Adil Ibrahim, Anu Mohan and Anoop Khalid have given their best for the given role. Overall, Last 6 hours is an okayish thriller if not for its inspirations from Don’t Breathe.
