Click
Parents nurture big dreams about their children, especially in terms of education. Early on, targets are set and many parents imagine a world where their children take the well-beaten paths of engineering or medicine. Click is directed by Shashikumar and tells the untold stories that may be experienced by parents who do not always understand what their kids love most. The movie becomes a beautiful representation of how parental expectations can suppress an individual’s true calling.
The film revolves around Samarth (Pavan Basrur) who features as the son. In a society that dictates either engineering or medicine for young people, Samarth finds peace as well as passion through photography. His dad Sanket (Sanket) and mum Sumana (Sumana Shashi), who have dreams of seeing him become a professional in any lucrative field are shocked by his choice to deviate from tradition.
But even when faced with societal pressure and their own expectations, he does not give up on following his heart this is what makes Click so special. Here Shashikumar explores different angles concerning what could possibly go wrong while presuming that parents usually know best for their children; it also serves as a critique on conventional parenting which tends to stifle personal growth among kids.
The movie might seem like one made specifically for children but its message lies more with parents. The performances alongside storytelling act as powerful reminders for fathers and mothers out there to support whatever dream their wards may have even if it means going against everything considered normal.
For Pavan Basrur, son to prominent composer Ravi Basrur, this marks his acting debut in Click where he brings alive Samarth deeply passionate about photography yet unwilling conform himself under any circumstances according to set standards or expectations from others such as family members represented by Karthik etcetera Chandrakala Mohan Sanju Basayya Sumana Rachana Dashrath among others also play their parts well enough.
Jeevan Gowda’s cinematography paints an emotional picture through light, shadow and colour which tell stories better than words ever could as seen in the various stages of Samarth’s journey; Vishwas Koushik provides a touching score while Akash Parva takes care of background music to heighten emotions even more during certain scenes where necessary these are just but few reasons why Click does not follow usual storytelling norms yet still manages to weave such a captivating story around relatable characters with very current themes.
The film also gives us great insights into relationships between parents and their children that might turn out to be too tight even when intentions were good. As we leave this place where all questions have been answered save for one will these lessons find application in our lives? Only time can tell.
