Age of Kill
Greetings everyone, it is Valkor. Have you ever experienced that feeling when, in the early parts of a film, maybe around the 15 – 20-minute mark, you wished that it would immediately come to the close? That is how I felt when the latest release, titled “Age of Kill” which comes from Britain, reached my desk. And even though it boasts of an amazing concept, it falls short in other areas.
Age of Kill is a drama that revolves around Sam Blake (Martin Kemp), a black ops sniper who is a father but is currently divorced. One day post an operation and while watching the news, he receives an urgent call from a man known only as ‘Jericho’. Jericho wants Sam to kill six specific targets, one every hour, to be finished by six o’clock. Initially Sam refuses to be ordered about by a stranger but when Jericho makes it clear that he has Sam’s daughter, things change and Sam begins to listen. Not complying will mean the child’s death. With this new information, Sam moves quickly. His initial two targets are completed effortlessly, but during a hit on his third target, he kills the man but draws the attention of a few people on the street.
This sets law enforcement hot on his tail which will make the completion of the remaining targets problematic. But running parallel to Sam’s quest we have Lexi (April Pearson), a sex worker also in the employ of Jericho. And just with Sam, he has something to hold over Lexi: her uncle, and the same threat of death if she doesn’t do what he tells her to.
On the other hand, her chores are essentially add and subtract but this does not mean that the two routes do not meet and she and Sam start working towards the objective. Although in Sam’s case I fear this might be his only last hurrah if he does not locate Jericho and deal with him once and for all.
Those who are fans of the 24 on FOX should notice several parallels between the characters Sam Blake and Jack Bauer: both fight for the good and both are ruthless when things get personal. There is even a clock counting down their mission although in Bauer’s case it is more later real time (since the series covers 24 24 hours) while Blake’s clock does not even seem to be working properly. But regardless of that, let us see what the TOV Breakdown has to offer that would make you seek out the story of Sam Blake.
