Coneheads

Flushed-Away

Beldar (Aykroyd) and Prymaat (Curtin); Prymaat more than Beldar are from the planet Remulak and Central Research Coneheads aliens with cone-shaped heads. Their vessel crashes onto Earth, and they are left waiting for rescue for an unknown period. Beldar attempts to raise his family in theirs and ends up losing all respect because of the conehead aliens out of the planet. It is only when their gay son gets social security paperwork that they stop being sought after by the INS agents (McKean and Spade) who are looking for ‘illegal’ immigrants. Owing to Beldar and Prymaat, Americans are reportedly keen to relocate from Detroit to suburbia to raise their first-born infant daughter, Connie (Burke).

As we delve into the teenage life of Connie, We find her dating mechanic Ronni Farley Alongside this we watch the family transitioning into the day American lifestyle that we as the viewers are used to. Long story short we watch the family as they get comfortable in their new home only to find out along the movie that they are to be saved.

The only movie I witnessed that was inspired and based on an SNL skit was Wayne’s World which in my opinion is a pretty good movie if I want to have a laugh or two. I do not think Wayne’s World deserves to be watched on repeat and I believe that I want to go and waste my time on better things.

But in my opinion, Coneheads was the worst if not close to the worst film ever made, whereas I do remember watching Sharknado in theaters and enjoying the experience wholeheartedly. Since then I have purchased mostly every movie belonging to the Mega Shark Franchise and have watched them at least over a dozen times. But what I do enjoy is mindless action movies with over-the-top cheesy one-liners and in your face illogical key plot holes from the 80s and 90s. I do feel like today we as a society has experienced the apex of ” it’s so bad it’s good” turning over to ” it’s so bad it’s just plain awful”.

To be completely honest, I’d rather watch Coneheads if I had to choose a movie from the comedy genre. Never have I once found myself interested in any cartoon or films of this genre, it has always been out of my reach. However, I’m proud to say that I found one person who shared the same sentiments as me, Nalini enjoyed the pain I endured.

Alien form of comedy isn’t what I’d enjoy watching, and the same is said in terms of Coneheads. The speech patterns and random sounds that the characters made throughout the film seemed to be very annoying and cringy for me, and quite frankly, I’d still consider them as alien even outside the movie.

The amount of boredom I endured when watching this movie was unexplainable, the plot was just silly and at times excessively unreasonable. The dialogue started to become a cringe mix as well. Comedy, fantasy, and drama all blended well but this movie just seemed to fall short in practically all aspects. The only comfortable feeling I had was that I stuck through it, however at the same time, it was slightly disappointing. If I am to provide you with an honest piece of advice, don’t watch this film, it’s simply a waste of time.

The only thing I enjoyed about watching this movie was the couple of seconds of a cartoon network ad where Captain Kirk was fighting the Gorn, and that too just slightly above average, would still not recommend this movie.

Sorry, but I have to go watch Ghostbusters and reclaim the respect I used to have for Mr. Dan Aykroyd, please.
