Dirty Lies
What’s good people? Valkor here. The next movie that I am going to review is called Dirty Lies and it felt so similar to Pressed. In both these movies, the main protagonists find themselves in the predicament that they are in as a result of doing something that they were well aware that they shouldn’t have done in the first place. On the other hand, the way these films conclude is quite varied which it seems Dirty Lies handles better. And it’s for this reason that I found Dirty Lies such an enjoyable movie and I think most of you will as well. Read further to find out more, but also bear in mind that some minor spoilers are there.
“Dirty Lies” focuses primarily on an intern Josh (Mark L. Young). Josh was instructed to purchase a necklace to give as a birthday present to his boss’s wife and was told quite emphatically that it should not be picked up before the day of the party. But as usual, Josh thinks that it would be best if he takes the necklace first home, then to the party, and saves himself the trouble of making the effort to procure it later on.
So, against his boss’, orders he chains them and brings a necklace home where he conceals the item beneath his bed while also flashing some bling to his housemates. Staying with him is singer songwriter Stacey (Scout Taylor-Compton 247°) who is married to her spouse Viggs (Beau Knapp) while Vigg’s mistress (unknown to Stacey) is Tiffany (AJ Michalka) who also has a child with him. Stacey is the one who has the upper hand in the property and she has recently found out that this property is in danger of being taken away from her.
Although four individuals share her dwelling, they are all unemployed or do not earn enough to pay the bills: Viggs is an artist trying to make it while Tiffany just got her first paying job that does not earn her much at all. Also, Josh has been taking money from his mom so we know he is broke. Still, Tiffany would like to host a party in honor of her new acting position. Stacey is a bit reluctant at the start but eventually accepts the idea and decides to help organize the party.
Two thieves, Amber (Tania Raymonde Wild Cherry) and her brother Del (Jesse Meledes), are we would assume searching the house looking for the necklace when the night of the celebration comes. But it is nowhere to be found. When there is a search party for Viggs’ pet, he finds it under Josh’s bed and takes it. Now it is Del and his sister Amber’s turn to be angry as they are not able to locate the necklace, also after the revelers are long gone, they plan to use the gun on Josh, Viggs and guests Tiffany and Stacey in case they are hiding the necklace.
At first, the bunch does not have much to say, but finally the place of the necklace is given up. So Del decides to take Josh and Viggs upstairs with him to bring the necklace but a tussle erupts and Del gets shot on the neck which renders him disabled. When Amber walks upstairs to check on what has happened, she gets involved in the tussle and gets knocked out and Josh is shot in the head. And then starts the dirty business of who leaked the info about the necklace to the thieves and for what reason.
Plus what do they do with them afterward? And what is the final outcome of the necklace? For that, you’ll have to pick “Dirty Lies” to know this and other issues raised by the author.
One of the coolest things about “Dirty Lies” is that it has a few more interesting cameos; first is Keith David (Don McKay), who plays a guy called Doc. There is also Bryan Callen (The Hangover 2), who play’s Josh’s boss “Brian Campbell”, and he’s quite a loser judging by his actions in the movie. It’s Tania Raymonde whom I most paid attention to, and that carrot in “Wild Cherry” is something I will never forget. I just wish her dad would’ve bitten into it instead ah, never mind. Next, let us turn to the TOV Breakdown!
