Disco’s Revenge
Disco’s Revenge is a wonderful deep cut that recalls how the great unifiers in our world are built on love, not hate.
Filmmakers Omar Majeed and Peter Mishara go far beyond the surface sheen of Disco to remind us of its roots as music born out of the social upheaval of Stonewall and the Civil Rights Movement, a true piece of counter culture whose message was simple; love and acceptance for all… Black, White, Latino, Straight, Queer, as long as you could dance.
Majeed and Mishara reveal through some miraculous music clearances , fantastic archival footage and extensive interviews with the people who were there that this genre had multi-layered influences which still rival some of the best song writing of today.
It lays bare it’s Hip-Hop , House Music and DJ community but more importantly allows understanding one another through the music that made everyone get on the dance floor.
At that time in history Disco music was a greater social unifier than even organizations like the Black Panthers because it stripped away everyone’s differences while they reveled in joy at ‘four on the floor’ beat that moved everybody’s feet.
In this era full jadedness and hate; Disco’s Revenge purpose is that we still need concepts such as those presented by so much Chic “Everybody Dance”.
