Hansel Vs Gretel
Such is the law of the mass-culture that viewers should not expect much from a low-budget production this time too. There are plenty of flimsy works from The Asylum, so in theory “Hansel Vs. Gretel” should be packed with disappointment as well. Nevertheless, I was forced to retract that judgement as the sequel to the “one of the worst movies ever Hansel & Gretel” had quite a few ingredients that would enable it to be a film packed with murder. Yeah, 2013 did see another movie called “Hansel and Gretel” but the picture was so bland that it left no impact whatsoever on me. The only detail I remember is that I placed it extremely low on the ratings.
One year has passed since the captured Hansel and Gretel vanquished the witch Lilith and made their escape. The two have in some ways grown apart, in that they now have very different objectives Hansel, searching for witches, slaughters any warm body that turns out to be a witch and sister Gretel and their grandmother have recently opened a very nice looking pie shop.
As brother and sister reunite, Hansel is adamant that a specific witch is the one who murdered Mason, one of Gretel’s loyal pie shop customers. They claim to be searching for a witch, and here you are a lot of misleading turns and red herrings are provided within the mix. Let us note that there are many films that have a much greater scope and budget, yet the outcomes of this film created much larger expectations and illusions of glamour that simply was not there in reality.
The plot intensifies when four beautiful witches make an appearance in the town, and take an interest in the dead Lilith. Gretel, Hansel, Willy and Mason’s brother Jacob seek revenge against the witches but it’s not easy. The witches are extremely powerful and very ancient.
In the film Hansel & Gretel released in 2013, the sister was portrayed by Stephanie Greco. However, in this movie, recruited for the role of Gretel is pretty and talented Lili Baross who plays Gretel for the second time. She has the ability of acting and is totally natural in front of the camera. I believe Baross has a brilliant career ahead of her, and with the roles she accepts, it is only a matter of time before she becomes a star.
Brent Lydic again played the role of Hansel, a professional actor who seems to love everything he does. (A spoiler) Lydic is such an actor, I am sure the audience will see the actor in several projects together with Baross in the future.
While Hansel Vs. Gretel might not be a great film, it sure is an interesting one. The quality of gore was nice as well as the way the action sequences were done. What is intriguing is that it was Jose Prendes, who wrote Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark an enjoyable movie for a B-genre. And if part 3 is made, let us hope that demure will be at the forefront of direction and his crew work their magic again.
