Jailbreak

Jailbreak

What started as a common escort mission will soon turn into quite the mess as the inmates of Koh Kla wage war against the guards of the prison. A special task force (9Jean-Paul Ly, Dara Our, Tharoth Sam) who stumble and are confined within the prison will have to brawl their ways out to survive and ensure the safety of a key witness (Savin Phillip).

Review: Jailbreak silently landed on Netflix this week so I had to look for it since it never made it to DVD/Blu-ray in my region (that I can locate).

Henderson Jimmy directed the film adding this Cambodian movie style action and mad energy which made it entertaining combined with some really good beatings and funny moments all over.

For my part, the second half seemed to have been better because I thought the fights were probably choreographed better; in several instances during the first half, some of the puches/kicks that were being thrown were evidently missing their intended targets and this took me out from a number of scenes. The fights are never too repetitive though, and it’s not overly showy; they are fighting for their lives instead of trophy poses, and I liked that aspect immensely.

For any characters who were given scant background, you will hardly feel anything for those characters but there is no need for it and for a no-nonsense action film Jailbreak manages to do what it is supposed to do well.

Jean Paul Ly was also awesome because not only does he have the moves but he instantly makes his character Jean-Paul appealing to such an extent that you already are on board with him. Some of the characters stand out because they were outrageous and there was hardly anyone more macho than the Cannibal which makes him one of the best antagonists of the film. Sisowath Siriwudd was also a menacing opponent in the form of Bolo, one of the core antagonists who had a screen presence as well.

I’m not sure whether it is the director or a member of cast who is obviously a Star Wars devotee but near the end, for one brief moment I was pleased to see FN-2187 written as vandalism on some wall with the rest of paint work in the background.

In conclusion, The Raid kill me all would be the appropriate description of this as an effortless viewing experience which is 90 minutes of uninterrupted action so no complaints. Watch it on Netflix and have fun, sit back and enjoy the show.
