The Curse Of Jack Frost (2022)

The curse of Jack Frost seems oddly familiar. The film is produced by Jagged Edge Productions and has a screenplay written by Craig McLearie and stars seasoned actors Sarah T. Cohen and Nicola Wright. Liana Failla makes her directorial debut in this film.

We have already reviewed and seen many of Jagged Edge Productions’ films. Most are a mixture of many low-budget films and a limited pool of writers, directors, and actors. As a result, the more of their films you watch, the more they tend to blend. Same theme, the same characters, the same setting, and the same plot points.

As for Jack Frost, it is one of their middle-of-the-range films. It is a dark supernatural film lacking any holiday cheer. It has a strong backstory and well-developed characters, so that’s a plus. Unfortunately, it’s also bogged down by heavy serves of cliché and a mediocre performance. The more we watch the Christmas-themed movie, the more we enjoy it, but at its core, we all know it’s riddled with cliché.

Long ago, a great battle occurred between Jack Frost, who is evil, and Santa Claus, and it somehow leads to Jack losing. He becomes dismembered and is hidden all around the world, but his disciples continuously try to revive him. They manage to gather all of his body parts except for a single hand. At the same time, a young woman named Lesley puts a stop to the abundant resurrection attempts by fully defeating Jack Frost.

While Jack has been defeated, it is truly only a matter of time until he returns once again.

Lesley, later on, is shown to be forgoing the celebration of Christmas because of the fear of Jack’s return. Sylvia, along with her family, have been compliant to Lesley’s wishes so far but they are visited by a family friend who has not enjoyed a family Christmas before. And so they decide to make it special for her, which annoys Lesley and the rest of her family greatly. Personally, it would be interesting to see Lesley’s character try to cope with being in a world where fear of Jack is absent.

This superb beginning brilliantly sets Jack Frost in a way where he appears to be the main antagonist while also adding dimension to the character so that he is motivated enough to attack.

Naturally, it is all a mistake as Jack restarts with his revenge tactics, slowly but surely regaining power once again. If only he can reclaim his last body part, he will be guaranteed undefeated and the world will remain lit under an eternal blanket of frozen darkness.

Pretty good game cast, a strong villain that has the banter and quick retorts to compete with Freddy Kruger, impressive imagery, and creative kills. Chilling murders and the antics of Jack Frost are by far the most convincing factor that keeps the character coming back. It’s particularly true, even if the plot begins to splutter and cough, or rather loses its intrigue in the middle.

The least captivating facets of the film, such as the family drama, thanks to the cast are just almost almost become tolerable, but only almost. The entire picture, however, is enhanced whenever attention is set on the movie’s antagonist.

He is unlikely to reach the level of becoming a horror legend, even though there is an element to it that appears like it is supposed to be this way. The character is well developed thanks to the performance from Stephen Staley and the absurdity of his character’s on-screen appearance with a rock soundtrack is entertaining. Nevertheless, the slasher pattern that he gradually descends to does not maintain enough paranormal aspects to keep the audience engaged. But even so, the low budget is quite well applied, and the holiday-themed killings are at least amusing.

The strong acting, appealing characters, and the titular villain aren’t sufficient to overshadow the slow parts, but there is fun to be had here. Although the screen isn’t ablaze, there is enough holiday horror to keep most moderately amused while the slashing continues.
