The Huntress: Rune of the Dead

The Huntress: Rune of the Dead

When looking for composers for The Huntress, MovieScore Media chose Simon Kölle whose action-oriented compositions draw inspiration from Nordic traditions. Kölle’s score, which also features Swedish orb performer Per Runberg and singer Mohlavyr, breathes of sea voyages and Vikings. The time is 9th century and it is during the Viking raids that the story of The Huntress: Rune of the Dead directed by Rasmus Tirzitis is set.

Runa’s (Moa Enqvist Stefansdotter) family affairs seem to have taken a new turn when there is so much tension and pressure about caring for them. After Runa takes care of a wounded soldier, she gets to know more about a missing father and a threat to the village. This music was awarded for the Best Original Score at the Queen Palm International Film Festival.

Composing a score for a Viking movie was a new experience for me in some respect. However, it is not a total departure from my experience because I have done music for fantasy games and albums, Kölle says regarding the project. During that time, Rasmus Tirzitis had no use for a temp score because he was convinced that in the hands of the composer the music was able to narrate the story and capture the essence of the film.

I was working with a self-explanatory master “Riksspelman”, Per Runberg who played the Bowed Harp, Flutes, Fiddle, Hardingfele, Mouth Harps and an impressive solo on Cows Horn and who is qualified in the 16th century. Apart from that Mohlavyr was another vocalist with whom I collaborated. I mean to say that with this score I was given the platform to really shoot for the stars.”

Stockholm is where award-winning composer Simon Kölle was born in 1977.

Simon has developed music for some high-profile documentaries and video games that include the award-winning Conduct This!. Songs were sung in dedication to Simon by Ennio Morricone, Oliver Stone, John Malkovich, Steven Seagal and he earned over 20 awards on international stage. He also worked on the second season of the eight episode Swedish series Blake Lake which was sold in more than 100 nations, Steven Seagal’s action thriller The Perfect Weapon and developed a rather interesting cooperation with the swedes musicians Money brother.

Among other things Simon has several projects in the pipelines including a major film “Vitt Skräp” (White Trash) featuring Swedish actor Ola Rapace. Movie Score Media released the album Ave Mater with Simon’s music.
