We Still Kill The Old Way

We Still Kill The Old Way

For some time, I’ve wanted to watch this movie; I believed this film was going to be quite graphic and brutal because I previously watched Vendetta which was very well made and had lots of action.

We Still Kill the Old Way is by no means the boring movie that it sounds like and you are sick of the average affects that filmmakers use in the movies targeting chavs or hoodies, trust me, this is worth your time.

The film portrays an exquisite rise to glory of anti-heroes, retired gangsters led by the tabula rasa of coolness, Richie (Ian Ogilvy) trust me, this man is on another level.

He walks out onto a screen with ease, but this is just a façade, since he is one of the most intimidating foes out there. When his brother is murdered by a group of hoodie-wearing psychopaths, it’s time to deal with them. He assembles his old crew and though they are a little rusty, they do a great job with ‘pain’.

James Cosmo steals the show as Arthur with his seemingly random shouting throughout the movie, providing some touches of humor, and simultaneously making the audience fear him.

It was also nice to see more of Alison Doody (Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade) as I haven’t seen her in much since and she still looks stunning as well.

There are lots of dark comic moments, the acting is well executed overall. This film is less brutal than Vendetta in that most of the violence takes place behind the scenes but there are still a few moments where you would cringe. The part where Charlie (Steven Berkoff) gets killed is quite nasty and when Aaron (Danny-Boy Hatchard) and his friends ssa are getting into it, you’re prepared for their death.

Aaron is the biggest coward ever in this film, the writers did a great job making him one; when Charlie tells Aaron to fight him, he acts like a little girl and allows his men to beat Aaron up instead. I despise Aaron’s character; Danny-Boy Hatchard played it so immersive that I would prefer to never meet him in real life, even his voice is unnerving.

That’s when the fun starts as the movie gives you everything you want and when these chavs begin to get tortured and killed you can effortlessly watch this awful brutality as they are devastated.

You can’t help but cheer on the old gents gangsters because they seem authentic and have a sense of honour and integrity.

The one thing that I would call a weakness in the movie is possibly the fact that it ended rather fast and the hospital scene got a little bit cartoonish for my taste. The first half relatively establishes a lot but frankly, not enough chavs got tortured for my liking But I might just have issues.

All in all, We Still Kill the Old Way is quite fun and certainly a superior entertaining Old People Kicking Ass film compared to the last Expendables release. It is an important comeback for Ian Ogilvy, and if you seek a satisfying revenge film, then have a couple of beers and enjoy the violence.
