We Still Steal The Old Way

We Still Steal The Old Way

An old gangster group attempts a major heist, but unfortunately gets apprehended during the robbery itself. They receive a prison sentence in one of England’s harsh prisons but this time, they meet one of their enemies who has unfinished business with them.

I have personally liked a lot of British gangster movies where people constantly use words like “cahnts” and “We still kill the old way” was one of the more fantastic films made in that category in recent times.

I would say that the sequel that goes by the name We Still Steal the Old Way, is arguably a better sequel in comedic and violence aspects. But the storyline and the characters are told and acted out well.

The Archer gang this time may have bitten more than they can chew, for they are captured during the robbery that they once commenced and after a quick imprisonment; when Vic Farrow (Billy Murray) their arch enemy turned friend arrives they seem to mess up the plans once again and are left escaping from a hopeless situation.

Our hero Richie Archer (Ian Ogilvy) who is quite famous for his cool and suave persona is usually known to be a man of many ideas, and he comes up with some during the film even though there are various turns and twists.

Murray was the most shocking addition to this series , who popularly plays in British films and TV and has probably the best portrayal of a villain this year. Vic is a complete psycho who grins throughout the movie while seeking revenge on Richie and has none towards anyone who stands against him.

Vas Blackwood also, for most people, gave a best performance for his role as the psychotic David who sometimes has the most blank stare and you just don’t know what he’s thinking.

This is not one of those movies that come with non-stop action from the beginning, but the film is full of tension, with an underlying sense of violence boiling throughout. The pacing is great and comedic ammunition is peppered in extremely well sandwiched between the most likable action team in forever Archer’s crew.

Richie’s level of smugness is almost adorable, but when Vic comes back into the picture, it’s easy to see that he poses a real threat and his crew is in real danger. The characters do not appear to be overly worried as they go through the movie craking many wise cracks and that is really the biggest flaw of the film. It is the fact that the same scene can change from a comedian one to a gory blood-violent one. Some of the humor combinations do not really work so well in this case.

There are a few too many coincidences for the audience to accept whereby our heroes escape whatever trouble that they are in, but it only serves to increase the enjoyment.

The Richard Jenkins addition is pure genius. It is still quite an enjoyable film which picks up towards the last half hour during which there is a prison riot and lots of blood flies everywhere.

It appears a 3rd film in the series is coming out soon and you can count me in because I do appreciate the challenges that the Archer gang has to deal with.

Overall, We Still Steal the Old Way has lots of violence and humor and never loses a sense of fun with the Archer crew as ever and with Billy Murray as a great villain.
