While We Sleep
After witnessing a disturbingly similar peculiar CAT-scan of a teenage female, radiologist Nina Evanko struggles to uncover the reason behind the young girl’s sleeping disorder. What she only imagined as seeking the truth turns out to be even worse and more peculiar than what she had ever anticipated.
While We Sleep begins with an interesting twist and a promise that some might find redeeming, wherein some cake candles in a fridge have reignited to spoil the cake it seems encased within chaos. The whole movie seems less interesting after it follows through. It also has a slight advantage of having a Ukrainian context that is at least somewhat refreshing
It’s not long before we are thrust into familiar territory flooding the screen with ‘bruised-hearted priest’ clichés once the obligatory trope of ‘broken soul priest’ appears and the film progresses into the trodden path of Exorcist rip offs. While a lot of this strumming rote that is considered possession is supposed to be funny, some people may find it surreal but it is not inspiring and many may sit bored at the type of conclusion that seems to always be guaranteed in movies of this genre. Unless absolutely necessary, don’t bother as there isn’t anything fresh.
“All of it is done in a hurry to try and put in a twist at the end of the story, but it is too late. Here, it is the viewers who are likely to be bored. The film is utterly boring and leaves much to be desired in terms of action sequences, with the exception of the last couple of moments. While We Sleep suffers from a script penned by star Brian Gross and Rich Ronat that is too wordy and not scary enough.”
